I am going to depart a little from makeup for this post! 🙂 We have been so busy with the holidays coming up that honestly I barely find time to write or even do my makeup let alone try new things. The month of November is especially busy for us because of our “Month of Thankfulness” calendar. I believe it is so important to teach our children to be thankful for the people and things in their lives. I don’t want them to ever take for granted the people that love them and want the best for them. It also helps to give to others before a season (Christmas) where no matter how hard we try to avoid it is always becomes about what they want.

What is a thankfulness calendar? You may ask. Well, allow me to explain. At the end of October we sit down with our dry erase marker and calendar and start to think about all the people for whom we are thankful. We write a different person on each day. As we go through the month, we find a way to tell each one of those people “thank you” in a special way.

Here are some examples. K cups and flavored syrup for a coffee drinking grandma. Money for Starbucks for another grandma. Donuts for grandpa. Snack mix and a thank you note for people who minister in our church. Here are a few more examples of people to whom we show thanks: Sunday school teacher, Jr Church workers, Deacons, Grandparents, Friends, mail carrier, trash men, and extended family. The kids really enjoy doing things for others and it is a great way to put focus on others and not on themselves.

One more thing we do is our “thankfulness tree”. Each night before we say bedtime prayers, we ask each one of the kids to tell us something for which they are thankful. We then write those down on a leaf and attach it to our tree. This year I purchased this bulletin board set: tree bulletin board set. I hung it on our wall and add the leaves each day. The kids are loving it! It is helping them to realize just how blessed we are!

I hope you spend some time this month reflecting on all the things that the Lord has given us and all the things we have for which to be thankful. These are just a couple of ideas that have really helped us focus on being thankful!

I hope each and every one of you have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving!
